As you know, the City of Fort Lauderdale experienced a major interruption in water service this week. Thankfully the majority of Tamarac was spared, as they receive service from Tamarac’s water plant.
However, our residents in Tamarac Lakes 1 and 2 remain under a boil water notice. While they, along with other Tamarac residents and businesses east of 441 receive their water service from Fort Lauderdale, only those two neighborhoods are affected. We anticipate that the boil water notice will be lifted by the end of the weekend.
This is not the first issue we have had with Fort Lauderdale’s water service and, based on comments made by their city’s leaders, it won’t be the last.
That’s why, several months ago, the Tamarac City Commission authorized the steps to begin the process of creating the infrastructure to move all of Tamarac onto the City’s water system. This is not something that can be completed quickly. And, it will require significant capital to accomplish. But it’s in the best interests of our residents and businesses and that’s what truly matters.
We will continue to work on service improvement with the City of Fort Lauderdale as well as move forward with the steps necessary to have everyone in the City on Tamarac water.
On behalf of the City Commission thank you for your ongoing understanding and support.
We will continue to keep you posted as the need arises.
