TAMARAC, Fla. (March 15, 2023) – The City of Tamarac marked the official launch of the Tamarac Pet Pantry with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by the City’s elected officials, community members, staff and supporters, on Wednesday, March 15.
Festivities included remarks by the City’s elected officials and staff. Bluey, the Broward Sheriff’s Office bloodhound, was also on hand to meet and greet with children in Tamarac’s Fast Track after-school program. Following the ceremony, the pantry’s first donation was received by a Tamarac resident. Tasty treats were also sent home with pet owners in attendance.
Proposed by Tamarac’s Mayor, Michelle J. Gomez, during the Jan. 11, Regular Commission Meeting, the City Commission agreed unanimously to implement the Pantry. The pantry now serves Tamarac households in need, occupied by both people and pets. Tamarac’s new pet pantry now operates from the Tamarac Recreation Center. It will provide the City’s income-eligible residents access to free dog and cat food, and serve as a collection point for pet food donations and collections.
"This is a great day for our City’s residents and their family pets," said Gomez. "No one should have to choose between feeding themselves or their fur babies. We are excited to open what I believe is the first City-operated Pet Pantry in the South Florida area. We will provide for those who may not have access to these essential items, otherwise. We look forward to seeing our happy pet families and the positive impact the Tamarac Pet Pantry will have on our community."
