[ARCHIVED] Hurricane Irma Update

Tamarac is closely monitoring Hurricane Irma and the potential impact it will have on the area. City offices remain open and regular services are available until further notice. However, if you are scheduled to attend a Parks and Recreation program on Thursday or Friday, please call the facility prior to arrival to confirm that class will be held.

The City has begun preparations such as monitoring canal levels and working with contractors to ensure construction site building materials are secure. To further limit the potential damage from flying debris, we ask that no bulk items be put out for pick up after Friday until the storm has passed.

Tamarac urges residents to finalize their hurricane plans. Make sure you have enough water, prescription medicine and other supplies to last seven days.
While Tamarac is not in an evacuation zone, information on Broward County’s shelters – including its pet friendly shelter – is available by calling 311 or (954) 831-4000 or visiting

Those with health issues should carefully consider their medical needs when determining whether to stay home or evacuate in the event of a hurricane. Visit or call 311 or (954) 831-4000 for information about pre-registering for a special needs shelter and about Broward’s Vulnerable Population Registry. The registry lets emergency responders know where to locate people with health issues, disabilities or frailty who elect to stay home during emergencies.
