[ARCHIVED] Tamarac's Lt. Jon Frasher is Broward County Paramedic of the Year!

Lieutenant Fraser was instrumental in saving another person’s life after the individual went into sudden cardiac arrest. Back in June 2011 while at his local gym Lieutenant Fraser heard several people cry out that someone had fallen and passed out. After running to the location he quickly assessed the individual and determined that he was not breathing, had no pulse and was cyanotic. Lieutenant Frasher began CPR and instructed another individual to call 911 and get an AED. He continued to provide one-person CPR for approximately 8-10 minutes and placed the patient in trendelenberg by putting his legs upon the treadmill. Once the Broward County Sheriff Fire Rescue crew arrived, they asked Lieutenant Frasher what he needed, so Lieutenant Frasher continued to oversee code management, including all interventions while on scene, for example medication administration, intubation, defibrillation, etc. Broward County Sheriff Fire Rescue Chief Neal DeJesus arrived on scene during the incident and thanked Lieutenant Frasher for all of his help throughout the incident. The patient actually regained pulses while on scene and was transported to Cleveland Clinic and remained stable throughout transport.

Lieutenant Frasher later saw the individual, Bob Pflum at the gym and realized this was the man he had saved a few weeks back. He approached the man and explained his involvement in the incident and the man was beyond thankful and apparently made a full recovery, and was working again at Imperial Point Hospital as a nurse.

For his outstanding assistance to another in their greatest time of need, and for his quick actions and calculated interventions, Bob Pflum has been given a new lease on life, for this act and for all his services to our residents, Lieutenant Frasher was awarded the Broward County Paramedic of the Year award.

Congratulations... We are proud...
