Minor Home Repair Program

The Owner-Occupied Minor Home Repair Program is designed to provide home repair assistance for existing eligible homes. The program does not reimburse for repairs prior to applying for assistance.

    • Impact Windows
    • Impact Doors
    • Roof Replacement
  • Correct health and safety hazards
  • Any building or code deficiencies of owner occupied properties

2023 Program Maximum Income Limits per Number of Household Members

In order to be deemed income-eligible for this program, your total annual gross household income must not exceed the amounts as determined by the income limits in the chart below.

Funding is currently limited to 80% AMI or below

2023 Income Limits

*Please note Income Limits are subject to change by HUD on an annual basis.

Applicants will have their application reviewed for eligibility to ensure that extremely low, very low, low and moderate-income families are served. The maximum assistance is up to $60,000 for households with income that does not exceed 50% of Area Median Income (AMI), $50,000 for households with income that does not exceed 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) and $40,000 for households with income that exceeds 80% AMI but at or below 120% AMI. Award is subject to City Staff review. Depending on the availability of funds, applicants will be funded on a first-ready, first-served basis. 

Assistance is in the form of a 15-year, 0% interest, deferred payment second mortgage. Homeowners will not be required to make any payments on the loan if they remain in the property for 15 years. 

Program Process

The 2023 Owner-Occupied Minor Home Repair Program will utilize the first-come, first-ready, first-served with priority given to elderly and special needs applicants. Application processing time could take up to 90 days. Once your application is being processed, you will receive a letter in the mail. You will be required to submit pertinent documents. You must respond within the given timeframe or your application will be denied. Housing assistance programs are dependent upon funding availability.

Application processing will continue until funds have been exhausted or the end of the program year, whichever comes first. Please note applications are purged each program fiscal year cycle.

A fee of $35 will be required from all approved applicants at the time of contract signing. This fee is used to cover the cost associated with satisfying the lien placed on your property as a result of participating in this program.

Program Requirements

  1. Applicants must meet the income requirements set by grant funding source(s).
  2. Property must be located within the City of Tamarac.
  3. Applicants required to sign Recapture Loan Document(s).
  4. The Housing Department must be able to verify income and assets.
  5. This property must be primary residence and homesteaded.

starting on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 8 a.m.

If you were not assisted in the 2022 program year, please re-apply during the 2023 application period.

Funding Sources for the City of Tamarac HOME Rehabilitation program are as follows:

  • Federal - U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development- Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Funds
  • County/Federal - Broward County Housing Finance and Community Development Division- HOME Funds
  • State - Florida Housing Finance Corporation- State Housing Initiatives Program (SHIP) Funds
