Capital Parks Projects Underway

Integrated Bikeway/Walkway Study

  • One of the projects in Tamarac 2004 (Strategic Plan) is to study the feasibility of creating an interconnecting system of bikeways throughout the City. Feasibility Study to be completed prior to bidding construction.
  • A bikeway system would provide interconnected safe avenues for bike riders to access schools, shopping and parks from the City’s residential areas.
  • Kick off meeting was held 5/1/07; draft of study completed

Southgate Linear Park - Parcel from Nob Hill Road west, between Southgate Boulevard and the C-14 canal

  • Project elements include Restroom facilities, Parking, Multi-purpose paths, Picnic shelters, Playground, Fishing pier, Benches, Landscaping
  • Projected substantial completion – March 2008

Sports Complex Expansion – 9901 NW 77 Street (Nob Hill & 77 Street)

  • Project elements include two (2) full-size and one (1) Little League baseball fields, Concession building with meeting room and restrooms, Picnic shelter, Playground, Fishing pier, Multi-purpose path, Natural area, Parking, Revision of existing park facilities
  • Projected substantial completion – February 2008

Tamarac Park Recreation Center – 7501 N. University Drive

  • Recreation Center will be demolished and rebuilt as a 15,100 sq. ft. two-story building featuring reception area, arts & crafts room with kiln, meeting rooms, youth/teen space, instructional kitchen, classroom, and administrative offices.
  • Project substantial completion date – Winter 2008

Dog Park – 2.5 acre site just west of Veterans’ Park on Southgate Boulevard, west of University Drive

  • Project elements include fencing, landscaping and irrigation, benches, dog wash area, water fountains, parking area, and walkway
  • Project is currently being designed in-house by Public Works
  • Bid award scheduled for late November 2007
  • Projected substantial completion – May 2008
