A "New Supervisor" Training Series

WHO: New Supervisors or Supervisors New to Government

WHAT: Becoming a new supervisor can be challenging at best. When you increase the challenge by becoming a supervisor at a municipality or other governmental agency, it can be overwhelming!

This unique and "first-time" offered program is specifically designed for new supervisors and supervisors new to governmental agencies within Broward County facing similar workplace issues, workforce changes, and varying performance standards. Participants will learn how to develop and coach staff while working within specific guidelines, procedures, and policies, common to many public organizations. You will have an opportunity to network with other governmental supervisors and share practical ideas for developing employee performance. The series includes the following eight half-day modules:

- Transitioning from Employee to Supervisor
- Interviewing & Hiring Within Legal Boundaries
- Communicating in the New Role
- Performance Management for Results
- Progressive Discipline
- Coaching through Feedback
- Legal Side of Supervision
- Delegating With Empowerment

WHY: As "regionalism" thinking continues to grow, governmental agencies are working more collaboratively. Pooling resources increases communications between organizations, and at the same time allows us to provide quality cost-effective training on a more frequent basis than possible as individual organizations.
It is a solid win for all!

HOW: This series is designed to provide four full days of training with two sessions offered each day. The interactive classroom training will involve hands-on application and job aids will be used to reinforce the skills back on the job. Thirty-minute job application assignments will transfer the learning back to each participant's agency.

WHEN: 2008 Spring Series: March 20, April 3, April 16, and April 30

WHERE: Each series will be hosted by a different member organization.
