Cadets
Tamarac Fire Rescue launched the Cadet program in January of 2002, when five young men and women signed up and the program quickly took on a life of it's own.

Cadets are between the ages of thirteen and seventeen years of age. Interested teens can apply by contacting the Program Manager: Van Schoen at
(954)597-3805. Applicants are required to meet with a board consisting of their peers and do a project to show what talents they have to offer the program.

Our Cadets are currently participating in a 26-week First Responder Course. This course is similar to that provided to firefighter trainees.

We are currently taking applications for the Cadet Program.

Cadets meet 1 time a week, for 2 1/2 hours.
A typical day starts off with calisthenics, starting with
* 1/4 mile sprint
* 50 Push ups
* 50 Sit ups
* 2 mile run

Each day a skill, ranging from Fire Fighter Safety to Search and Rescue, is covered. Cadets get an opportunity to do hands-on training as seen in the pictures. Cadets learn how to handle the equipment used by firefighters in the field today. Training topics covered in the program include: Fire Extinguishers, First Aid and team building.

Cadets get involved in many other community activities. Working throughout the community has provided a great sense of accomplishment to the Cadets and benefit to the community. The Cadets are recognized as an important group within the Fire Rescue Department. Cadets help at community and Department events throughout the year.

The Kiwanis Club of Tamarac/Sunrise presented the Cadets with uniform shirts and personal rescue kits.
