A.The Stormwater Management Division is responsible for the maintenance of waterways, including debris removal and control of aquatic vegetation. The Citys aquatic weed control program is designed to maintain a certain amount of vegetation in the waterways which is necessary to support aquatic life and habitats. However, during the summer months, it is possible to see a proliferation of aquatic vegetation due to a combination of factors such as fluctuation in water levels, sunlight, and flow of fertilizing nutrients from golf courses and lawns.
The City makes every effort to control the growth of vegetation with a combination of EPA permitted and approved chemical spraying, and grass carp. Should you have a problem with canal maintenance, drainage or excessive aquatic weed growth in your area, please contact (954) 597-3721.
